The Department of Geography at the University of Zurich is seeking an outstanding candidate to fill one fully funded
Postdoctoral Position on Mega-Events in Brazil (100%)
for a period of 4 years. The earliest start date is August 2013.
The post is part of a new research group headed by Prof. Dr. Martin Müller. The incumbent will be responsible for designing, conducting and publishing research on the role of socio-material networks in knowledge circulation and governance in the context of mega-events. The Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and the FIFA World Cup 2014 will serve as case studies. The post is embedded in a larger comparative project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, that will also include the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Profile
Candidates should have completed their doctoral dissertations in a pertinent social science discipline such as (but not limited to) Human Geography, Political Science, Anthropology, Organisation and Management Studies, Urban Studies or Sociology. While based in the Department of Geography, the group will conduct interdisciplinary research, drawing on a range of diverse academic traditions.
Expertise in qualitative methods (semi-structured interviews, participant observation) and experience with fieldwork in Brazil or in the context of mega-events are a strong plus. Familiarity or a willingness to engage with poststructuralist theories is expected. Excellent command of English, in writing and speaking, is a requirement. Knowledge of Portuguese will be useful for the fieldwork. Experience with publishing in English is an asset.
The salary is competitive.
